A daring journey. A magical transformation. A promise that can’t be broken.
When mutants overrun Earth, young inventor Juuji escapes to Mars with his extraordinary family—an unwell girl trapped in a cradle, two bickering dogs sharing one body, and a giant caterpillar longing to fly. Juuji believes the answer lies in an impossible experiment: a special pineapple that could spark true transformation.
But when the caterpillar becomes a breathtaking butterfly, danger follows. Hunted across Mars and racing toward a legendary healing spring, Juuji and his family must rely on courage, patience, and each other to survive.

Mutants scavenged planet Earth and feasted on humans and animals. Juuji gathered his friends into a makeshift rocket and flew off to Mars. But Mars didn’t support some situations, and there were problems. One of Juuji’s friends, Asiim, remained in a cradle at nine years old. She stopped growing, and only a trip to the magic spring would heal her. Another friend, a caterpillar called The Bus, also needed to gain its wings and fly Asiim to the healing spring. Juuji had his work cut out for him in his desperation to grow the life- changing pineapple species that will give The Bus a pair of wings.
Will Juuji ever achieve the groundbreaking experiment of his dreams? Find out in Juuji & The Pineapples in Mars!, written and illustrated by Martin Ntonjira.
Juuji & The Pineapples in Mars is a captivating fantasy novel for children between two and ten years. The book was brief with a solid plot and an educative storyline for people of all ages. Juuji and his friends were in a situation that mirrored our daily struggles. The story was relatable and reiterated that determination and consistency yield results. However, there are always bumps along the way, but we must persevere and remain positive. Of course, we encounter people like Nim who wouldn’t believe in us until they saw results. Others may also tire of us, and that’s okay. We must listen to the Lims in our lives. Martin Ntonjira is an incredible storyteller.
He uses a simple and fun writing style that will hold a child’s attention. The story was beautiful, and I recommend it to everyone.
